Pistol Creek Golf Club, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Berlin, Connecticut.
Opened in September 2001 just outside of Hartford, this gently rolling site once housed the firearms manufacturing plant of Simeon North, who made most of the guns used by the U.S. side in the War of 1812. The course was designed by Vero Golf.
Though just over 6,500 yards from the tips, the combination of open holes and those tightly guarded by woods and water makes for an interesting and enjoyable round. Elevation changes are dramatic and the views from the high spots look out across the gently rolling terrain of central Connecticut.
Pistol Creek can be visually intimidating, but the course plays fair and at 6,586-yards, is not an overly lengthy track. The front and back nines differ slightly. The front is generally flat and plays through the lowlands, the back has elevation changes of almost 50-feet. The fairways are a mix of open an tree-lined, and the large greens (average 6,500 square-feet) have good movement and stimp at about 9 to 9.5. Water in the form of wetlands comes into play on six holes. Pistol Creek plays from 5,497 to 6,586-yards, and depending on the hole, there are up to six sets of tees available. The course will prove challenging for all skill levels from novice to pro, yet was designed with the 10 to 25 handicapper in mind. Members can walk the front. Pistol Creek boasts the largest practice facility in Connecticut.
Pistol Creek Golf Club closed in 2005.
